Still bookmaking!

I made lots of books in October though didn't quite make the one a day that I'd planned at the end of the month. However, I'm still making books. These two are for gifts.

More books

More books to add to the collection. Inspiration from various sources - house one from a Mollie Makes book, some ideas from 'Making Books by a Hand' by Peter & Donna Thomas & stitched spines after a workshop with the lovely Lesley at Sue Browns. Bit behind with the book a day having been visiting family.

More books

I'm still making books! Day 3 is still in progress as I'm working further on the cover. Day 4 was inspired by a beautiful sky early that morning. Day 5 is the book I made for the Stroud monthly book group with a theme of 'Mind the Gap'. It has a slip case & two parts to it. Day 6 I went for a walk and loved all the colours of the autumn leaves so it is painted squares of colour. Day 7 was a busy day so just two little pamphlet stitched books with washi tape decoration. Day 8 was another busy day so a quick little book with wrap over cover. Day 9 is made up from pages of different lengths with images of lovely work in the blue colour range taken from a catalogue for Hampshire Open Studios (which sadly I didn't get to.) now onto today's book...!

Booktober challenge

Having been on a book making course at the end of September I've decided to challenge myself to have a 'Booktober' - trying to make a book a day this month. Two days in and two books made. I want to use stuff I already have as funds are low so the first one uses bits left over from the holiday sketchbooks I made recently. For the second one I looked through a box of bits and found this neat changeable cover. Rather like the idea and might make my own version later on. The pages came from an old school sketch book.
Does anyone feel like joining me in this challenge? Hope so as it would be fun to compare notes.

The colour of green

Colour

I saw an exhibition yesterday at the Museum in the Park, Stroud, of paintings and drawings by Robert Davison. The thing that really inspired me was his bold, loose use of colour. So straight out this morning to have a go. Usually I draw in pen first & then use neocolors on top, so this plain colour is a bit of a departure for me but I was feeling for some time that I'd become stuck in a rut. Always good to experiment & try out new ideas.

Little book

A little book for the monthly meeting of Stroud Artist Books this week. The theme was Alter Ego. Being born under Pisces I feel the need for the sea whenever I can get to it. Yet the fish seem to swim in opposite directions! Is that what makes me procrastinate so much?!

Snow!

More snow today and watching it falling against the dark green conifer hedge next door just asked to be done. The free Christmas stamps that were with a magazine came in useful!

Stencils

Also looking at using stencils for the backgrounds behind the birds to maybe make it a rather a dark book to go with the dark story. Just ideas to play with at the moment.

Ravens

I'm working on ravens for the story of the Twelve Brothers. These are going to be made into Lino cuts to go into my book.

Newark Park

Newark Park has opened again and I went to have another look around for ideas in patterns, objects and spaces. On the upstairs landing there is a cabinet of blue China which caught my attention. I might use ideas from these to progress my work on the book.

Book making

For the exhibition at Newark Park in June I have been planning to make a book based on the Twelve Brothers story. Due to my wrist still being sore I haven't been able to do much in the way of sampling, just thinking about it. While sorting through things today I came across this little mock up of a book I made in the autumn last year. It has some of the ideas I'd been thinking of for my proposed new book incorporated into it - transparency / translucency, stitching, text, secret / hidden areas.
